PREFACE

I am applying for the position of social media investigator.  Included with my cover letter and functional resume, is a set of five examples of my collegiate writing assignments, that are intended to serve as a portfolio so that I may showcase certain skills, styles, and attributes that will be relevant to my success as a social media investigator.

From the details of the job description, I have concluded that the main areas of competence that will make someone a better candidate are strong writing skills (including the ability to build a narrative and effectively place details in a report), strong overall communication skills (including being able to break down a case, for easy understanding by others), and strong online research skills.  The items that I have chosen for my portfolio have been chosen to display my ability to adapt to different styles, and to create a quality product using the aforementioned strengths.

The first piece of my portfolio is an assignment where I had to create a comparative for the differences between a public relations strategy and an advertising strategy.  My intention for including this assignment is to firstly show my quality of writing, secondly:  show how I break down a comparative, thirdly; to showcase that I can use the internet for research, in building the media contact list.

Next, I have included article assignment that I had to create, where I chose online security as the topic. In this sample, I show my research skills, in providing technical information, and I show my communication skills, by taking something scientific in nature, and making it understandable to a lay reader. I also show my versatility in being able to write in different styles, with writing an article

Next, I have included a fictitious local news story.  This example offers a preview of how well I would be able to write a report, in constructing a narrative and organizing the details in a professional fashion.

Next, I have included an assignment where I had to write a story pitch for a local news agency.  This shows my ability to communicate in a clear and professional way.

My final example is a Power Point Speech assignment.  This power point shows that I am able to use Power Point effectively, and how well that I am able to construct and informative presentation.

In all of these examples, I show my writing and communication skills.  I also show my ability to write in a professional tone.  In two of the pieces, I am able to show my ability to gather information through online research as the job requires.

P.R. and Advertising strategy

Public relations:  The target audience are customers and potential customersThe goals are mitigating the damage to company image retaining and regaining confidence through accurately reporting the facts. A press statement will be released to several outlets.  It will contain the important facts to give a clear representation of the crisis.  The tone will acknowledge facts and concerns and put the crisis into perspective making it clear that the social media representation is inaccurate.  The tone will also reflect loyalty and confidence between Interstate and stakeholders.  There will be reassurance that only one model had the flaw, while explaining what is being done to correct the issue.  After the statement is released, interviews will be granted to social media influencers and podcasts relevant to the auto market.  Bloggers will be used as well.  The message will be consistent with the press release statement.  A form letter will be sent to shareholders in the company, reminding them that Interstate Motor Company has had international success, and explaining the correlation between the state of the economy and slowing car sales, while at the same time expressing optimism and confidence with future sales forecasts.

For the advertising strategy, a slogan will be developed that reflects that Interstate Motor Company has always been a reliable product and will continue to be.  Research will be the first major component.  Focus groups, and interactive social media will be used to gauge attitudes and concerns about Interstate Motor Company.  Interstate Motor Company will retain then a trusted and well-liked celebrity to act as a permanent company spokesperson.  After assessing the information gathered from the interactions with the public, a tone and tenor will be developed that will be geared towards stakeholders.  Goals will be set.  With the communication process, there will be television ads, also ads on social media and Google (delivered based upon algorithms).  Ads will be placed in auto magazines as well.  6 months after the launch of the campaign, there will be an evaluation to determine how close that the campaign was able to get with reaching the set goals.

IMC CHARISMA MANUFACTURING FLAW CAUSED FIRES

Greer, SC. Interstate Motor Company regretfully has discovered a manufacturing flaw in the fuel system of the IMC Charisma. The specific manufacturing flaw has caused car fires.

Over the past year, a total of seven car fires have been reported. The IMC Charisma is the only model manufactured by Interstate Motor Company, in which this issue has happened. Most of the incidents have been minor.

Most of the car fires initially went unnoticed by the driver of the vehicles. Unfortunately, however, there was one instance where a family of three had to be hospitalized. Interstate Motor Company feels both regretful and sympathetic to the family that required medical attention due to the fire. Interstate has always and continues to take customer safety as a high priority.

Anyone who has a 2021 IMC Charisma should immediately refrain from the driving their vehicle due to risk of a fire. Contact the support line provided by Interstate Motor Company 1-800-NEED-FIX.  The faulty part in the fuel system will be replaced with of course free of charge. All customers who the situation applies to, will receive a $100 gift card from the retailer of their choice, as a small way for Interstate Motor Company to apologize to our loyal, and valued customers for this unexpected inconvenience. Interstate Motor Company sincerely thanks their customers for their understanding and will continue to put a high premium on quality, safety and excellent customer service.

Greer family hospitalized after car fire

By Anthony Teoli

Greer, S.C (WAT) -Tuesday a Greer family was hospitalized following a car fire.

At around 2pm, on Oct 26. 2021, in Greer, Don Edwards 54, of Greer, was traveling Southbound on Wade Hampton Blvd with his wife, Janice Edwards, 52, and their son, Jacob Edwards, 16, in the middle lane on their way to Wal-Mart, in Taylors.

Edwards stated while waiting at a stop light at Wade Hampton Blvd, and Buncombe St, in the middle lane, black smoke began to enter the cab of his Charisma. At first, he was unable to change lanes, and his family was unable to safely exit the vehicle in the middle of heavy traffic. When the light turned green, Edwards was able to safely changes lanes and get the car into the Waffle House parking lot at the corner of Wade Hampton Blvd and Church St.  Edwards estimated that the family has been breathing in smoke for roughly five minutes to that point.  Once in the parking lot, the family noticed that there were flames coming from the slits in the hood, near the windshield. Once the family safely, exited the vehicle, Edwards called 9-11.

The Greer Fire Department arrived on the scene within seven minutes after the 9-11 call. The car fire took approximately four minutes to completely extinguish. The Edwards family had to be taken to Greer Memorial Hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. All three are expected to make a complete recovery.

“I thought that the car would explode. The fire department did great, says Lanett Thomas, a witness who eating at Waffle House.

The Greer family had become the latest occupants to experience a car fire in the 2021 IMC Charisma sedan. Over the past year, there have been now a total of seven known cases of car fires occurring in the 2021 IMC Charisma Sedan, with the first occurring Jan 17, 2021, in Santa Fe, N.M. In the first six known cases, the circumstances have all been similar. The incidents spread over five states (N.M, C.O, M.I, F.L, and Maine).  In all, black smoke was noticed entering through the vent and the drivers were able to pull over. With all six cases, the occupants would discover at a later time from a technician that the car that they were in had experienced a fire, and that the car was beyond repair at that point. The Edwards family had the seventh known Charisma to catch fire, and the one case with any known injuries.

The Greer fire follows Ronald Adams, CEO of Interstate Motor Company, Oct 21, 2021, a statement to the public concerning the IMC Charisma sedan as well as other topics related to an ongoing public relations situation for Interstate Motor Company, amongst growing calls for answers from the public as well as IMC’s various stakeholders.

According to the statement released, the 2021 IMC Charisma Sedan has a manufacturing flaw with a part in the fuel system called a fuel crossover line. The defective part can lead to fuel leakage, causing a danger of fire, when the fuel mixes with heat

“The fuel crossover line is the worst part to have defective. Gasoline is literary spraying around if there is a leak. I cannot fully emphasize just how dangerous that this is,says Daniel Hampton a former IMC engineer who helped design the Charisma.

IMC has recalled all of the 2021 Charisma sedans sold in the United States. Adams stated that IMC will replace the defective part for the 2021 Charismas, free of charge. He encouraged all customers who have this year and model vehicle to stop driving the vehicle immediately, and to contact the local Interstate Motor Company dealership to schedule a service appointment. Customers are recommended to have their car towed in, due to the potential risk of a car fire.

WAT NEWS has reached out to International Motor Company’s public relations department. There was not a representative available for further comment.

JUST HOW SECURE IF YOUR INFORMATION?

Additional bases to cover for your online security

Just how secure is your information online?  For some people, that may seem like an obvious answer.  For some people there might not seem like any reason but to feel complete confidence that their information has been safely deposited and there will not be a reason to fret.

It is important to realize that there is a good reason that there is an old adage for people who choose to assumeNot only the person who is assuming can be affected, but others can be too.

It is 2021.  It is the future and computers seem to be a part of almost aspect of day-to-day life.  For an individual, computers are used for listening to and storing music, to storing all personal identification and banking information.  Computers also used for paying bills and doing online shopping…A keyboard can the tool for money changing hands.

For an organization or for a business, computers are vital and necessary.  If the customer decides to do business on their end using a computer, for an organization or a business to participate with those type of customers, they will need to use online technology on their end as well…As the saying goes, it takes two to tango.

API stands for Application programing interface.  What API is basically is, is software that makes it possible for one application to communicate and interact with another.  API is how the connections are made.  There is a server side and a client side.

On the client side, the client whether it be an individual or an organizational effort, has the ability to regulate the security on their end.  They can either settle for security updates provided by the cyber security provider that they are linked up with; Or they can do a process known as Patching.

Whether a customer waits for the cybersecurity provider to give periodic updates in an effort to beat new threats to the punch, or if a customer has the strategy to mitigate risk through patching, threats are always something to prepare for.

Malware is software that when it is downloaded into a device, has been designed to do damage to the device. Worms are malware that work much like a human virus does.  They can move from computer to computer or device to device, and without any help from a person to do so.

A Firewall is what is used by a cybersecurity system.  The way that it works is similar to a water filter, but a little more complex.  With the incoming traffic from the server side of an API, a firewall is meant to remove all of the impurities, which in a technical case would mean harmful agents to the device.  In order for this work, the firewall is programmed to recognize and interpret possibly harmful Applications.

A customer can feel completely confident in whatever cybersecurity product or strategy that they employ.  A customer whether it be an individual or organization can be completely right to assume that any traffic coming and going from their device is perfectly safe and well-regulated.  They can be completely right…But completely wrong when it comes to the bigger picture.

In an interview, Tim Jefferson from Barracuda Networks offers an unbelievably valuable perspective, from his point of view as a reputable cybersecurity expert.

The first step for security is to have everyone get their arms around a shared responsibility model” (Jefferson, 2021).

In the interview, Jefferson went on to describe how in the past 7 years, there have been a lot of adjustments in the Cloud ecosystem (Jefferson, 2021).

Consistent with Jefferson stated should be the first step for security, with “everyone”, Third Party Vendors are included in that assertion.

A third-party vendor may be used when a customer does business with an online retailer, such as Amazon.  When someone decides to order a DVD or a birthday gift from Amazon, or other online retailers, the personal information that is provided does not just evaporate after being used.

Cookies are the name of files that store a customer’s information on their computer or device when they shop. When the customer opens a site and goes to buy something else, the site may read the cookies from the customers computer.

Databases are collections of customers information that are out there in there in cyberspace.  A customer trying to guess how many databases that hold their information in cyberspace, is probably as possible as accurately guessing how many stars are in outer space.

Then there is The Cloud.  The Cloud is a subscription-based technology, where users pay to have a storge unit on a server, where they can store information for quick retrieval from cyber space.  It is basically like storing files on a computer or device, but the files can be accessed from any computer or device.  Convenience and peace of mind, that the information will never be lost are the main draws to the cloud.

Where information is stored, there is an attraction for Black Hat Hackers. These hackers get by security for their own personal gain, creating victims.

If a third-party vendor does not take security seriously enough, they can potentially leave their customer based badly exposed.

Limoges Jewelry, who is a third-party vendor, contracted with Wal Mart was hacked.  Names, addresses, passwords, etc.…were accessed by hackers from a data base (Matteson, 2018).

Wal mart’s customers are one example of many.  Customers who believe that their firewall, and cybersecurity systems make them completely safe, may be missing a whole other basket of possibilities, in which their personal information may be stolen.

The Dark Web is one possible place someone’s information may end up.  The Dark Web is a place online that can only be accessed using specific software.  The communication is untraceable thus a perfect place to exchange the information of cyber victims.

Taking additional steps to know who a customer is sharing their most valuable information with, is worth it.

Dear Steve Hoffman,

Hello, my name is Anthony Teoli.  I am a freelance journalist.  I have a news story idea that fits with the usual style of KSFY Greenville.

The core of the news story will be centered around the upcoming Fortnite tournament that will be at the Freedom Center in September.  A story like this has a possible interest hook for a number of potential types of viewers.  Of course, the younger viewers are going to be the predictable target audience, with Fortnite being so popular with young people.  Another possible viewership may be a parent of young people who play Fortnite, but do not know much about the game.  The story is sure to also be of interest for anybody that follows local news, as while this is a video game culture story, it is equally a local event story.

I am a parent of a Fortnite gamer.  I have learned a lot about the game from my son and have a perspective on what is interesting about the game.  Outside of the event coming to Greenville, this story is also timely because of the city of Greenville doing so much to promote events happening again, in spite of the pandemic.  In the script that I have included, I make sure to mention the needed financial impact that the event will have on the local economy.  As for shots, there will be footage of the game itself, with important details about the game included.  There will also be a shot of the Freedom Center.  For an interview, there is a brief interview with a teenage participant of the tournament.

Thank you very much for your time.  I look forward to hearing from.

Sincerely,
Anthony Teoli
